In a clinic where everything revolves around beauty and body ideals, people want to feel comfortable and enjoy competent advice in a pleasant atmosphere. Under this premise, we have realized the practice furnishings of The Body Clinic in Amsterdam and also relied on the use of solid surface material instead of exclusively wood to create a bright, inviting ambience with a high comfort factor.
The Body Clinic in Amsterdam offers its clients a wide range of beauty and wellness treatments for all areas of the body. Tightening, anti-ageing treatments, facial corrections, or the optical adjustment of features to the desired self-image are performed here at a particularly high professional level. However, space in the clinic is very limited. Waiting rooms, treatment rooms and offices are small and have few windows, but should still be brightly lit.
That is why we worked with very bright walls in all areas and darkened the windows with semi-transparent shutters to create privacy. Especially in treatment rooms, patients do not want to be exposed to the views of third parties. But the daylight can still be used through the bright blinds. The lighting concept includes direct and indirect lighting, which is significantly warmer than is otherwise standard in the clinical environment.
Wherever possible, for example around the reception counter, solid surface material was used. The solid surface material Corian in light colors gives the practice furnishings a neat, hygienic appearance. But for the cleaning process itself, it also makes sense to use a solid surface material such as Corian in preference to furnishings made exclusively of wood materials. It can be kept cleaner and as sterile as possible. We used walnut wood as an optical counterpart to the solid surface material for the practice furnishings. In the waiting area, for example, the wood brings warm, vibrant colors that break through the clinical ambience and create space for a feeling of security.
Since we have lifted the waiting area onto a stepped platform with comfortable upholstered furniture, the slightly cramped niche appears larger and the seating area more upscale. While waiting, customers have the opportunity to inform themselves about new treatment options via a monitor. The large daylight window was used here as the main element of the room’s lighting.
In the treatment and office rooms of the Body Clinic, we have opted for a practice furnishing with spacious pieces of furniture that offer a lot of storage space for medical accessories. Counters, filing cabinets and shelves work with pastel shades of blue and green, which perfectly complement the white and light grey walls. The office furniture is designed in a light and delicate style, giving the consultation room a clean yet pleasantly open frame. Nevertheless, the necessary spatial distance between the consulting physicians and their clients is created. Thus, treatment takes place at eye level and with professional discretion.
